Have you ever wanted to be a knitwear designer?

It’s May, and I’m back!

I am looking forward to getting back to knitting, blogging, and general craftiness (including stashing and de-stashing!) and letting you in on the details. First, though, I wanted to share this idea I’ve been busy working on.

I want to design some patterns!

It’s a daunting task, but I figure while I have the summer, I should try. I have already set up my Etsy shop, and I am reading Starting an Etsy Business for Dummies (great read, by the way) to get me started. There’s nothing in the shop yet, but I wanted to start it so at least I’d have a daily reminder that I have to do it. Well, not have to, but you know how the tie-a-knot-around-your-finger thing works, right? Same idea.

So here’s my special treat: While I know that most of you can’t be bothered to write down a make up a pattern seeing as there are so many to choose from in the first place, chances are you may be intrigued about possibly having your name in print. What’s that? Yep, you heard me right.

And trust me when I say I have looked high and low for information on how to do just that. Not many places give you specific directions, and rarely do they take you though the steps of actually producing a prototype to typing up that pattern and getting it tested by a fellow knitter. So I’ve decided to compile that information myself. You get to see it first, but make sure you tell others about it so that we can add on to this wealth of knowledge that is already out there.

Let me know what you want to learn, and I’ll post it. For example, I read this great article on the general stickiness of figuring out what copyright laws apply to you and to the work that you create (either based off of an original, or totally unique). Look for a later post on that. For now though, look out for some pictures!

And leave me a comment, please! :D

  1. This is cool. I wanna learn something about knitting, really anything would be exciting to me since I know so little. lol.

  2. I’m so looking forward to your new creations… and perhaps cooking adventures? I think it would be fun to chronicle during this summer. Like cheesecake.
